In September 2026, the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs reports an index of −36 points. After the publication of 9 October, it is just one point above the value of September 2025.
However, the sub-indicators show different developments. The expectations for the overall economy are better than one year before, whereas the past and expected financial situation of their own budget are judged worse.
The index summarizes these four sub-indicators as an average. It measures estimates of households; the −36 points are neither a percentage indication nor a measured change in consumption expenditure. The survey is carried out online with weekly retrieved random samples from the population aged 16 years.
The comparison period is crucial for the classification: the current communication compares September with September, not with August. The next results for October are provided in the provisional SECO calendar for November 6, 2026 at 9 a.m.
