In September 2026, registered unemployment in Switzerland has slightly decreased compared to the previous month, but remains above the previous year. According to the figures published on 6 October by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs, 140’480 persons were registered unemployed at the regional employment centres, which is 1’064 less than in August, but 7’247 more than in September 2025.

The seasonally adjusted figures also show only a small move: the number of unemployed fell by 475 to 147’411 compared with August, the corresponding rate remained at 3.1 percent. Seasonally adjusted data should calculate regular fluctuations in the course of the year.

The number of unemployed fell by 332 to 14’346 in the 15- to 24-year-olds, but 485 more than in the previous year. The 50-64-year-olds were counted 38’482 unemployed, 201 less than in August and 2’291 more than a year earlier.

The RAV reported 44’199 vacancies, 466 more than in August and 6’827 more than a year before. Two thirds of these posts were subject to the obligation to register. The figures describe notifications to the public employment agencies and must not be equal to all open bodies or to all persons without work.
